Refugee camps are transitory solutions that as they endure, they end up having a strong negative environmental imprint on the local ecosystem. An example of this is Bourj Al Shamali refugee camp in south Lebanon. Founded after 1948, it has now taken on the air of an overcrowded, unplanned, permanent city.
Concerned with the poor environmental conditions in the camp, the local committee in the Bourj Al Shamali refugee camp has decided to make this one of their priorities.
